Meet Poody 🐾
A Little Dog with a BIG Heart ❤️
A Little Dog with a BIG Heart ❤️
Poody's story began when she was approximately one year old. She was rescued from an animal hoarding situation, along with numerous other dogs and cats.
During her veterinary examination, doctors discovered that she had a rare and serious congenital heart condition called reversed patent ductus arteriosus (PDA).
The prognosis was heartbreaking. The veterinarian believed she probably wouldn't live to see her second birthday.
Because of her medical condition, the rescue organization felt she couldn't be placed for adoption.
But a friend who worked with the rescue told Miss Judy about this special little poodle.
Miss Judy's response was simple:
“I'll take her and give her a good home for however long she's here.”
And that was the beginning of something wonderful. ❤️
From the very first moment Miss Judy picked her up, Poody acted as though she'd known her forever.
There was no hesitation. No getting acquainted. She simply settled into the arms of the person she'd chosen.
And she hasn't wanted to leave Miss Judy's side — or her lap — since!
At the rescue, she hadn't even been given a name. They simply called her “Poodle.”
Miss Judy turned “Poodle” into “Poody,” and the name stuck.
That little dog who once had no name and an uncertain future had found her forever home. ❤️
Poody was born with a condition called patent ductus arteriosus (PDA).
Before a puppy is born, a blood vessel allows blood to bypass the lungs. Normally, this vessel closes shortly after birth.
With PDA, it stays open.
In the more common form, extra blood flows back toward the lungs, making the heart work harder.
But Poody has a much rarer form called reversed PDA, in which high pressure in the blood vessels of the lungs causes blood to flow in the opposite direction. Some blood enters her body's circulation without receiving enough oxygen.
This can cause fatigue, difficulty exercising, and weakness in the back legs.
Poody takes heart medication twice every day. Occasionally, when she becomes very excited, her back legs become weak. Miss Judy has learned to recognize the earliest signs and help her rest until she's steady again.
Her condition is serious, but it is only one part of who she is. ❤️
In August 2026, Poody celebrated her SEVENTH birthday! 🎂
The little dog who wasn't expected to reach two has enjoyed years of love, adventures, snuggles, and being thoroughly spoiled.
Every birthday is something worth celebrating.
And Poody? She has absolutely no idea she's any different from any other dog.
Seven years of love, and every single day is a gift. ❤️🐾
It didn't take this little rescue girl long to discover the finer things in life!
Poody loves pretty outfits, fancy bows, compliments, and having a warm lap available whenever she needs one.
She's a professional napper, a porch-sitting lake watcher, an ice cream enthusiast, and the official four-legged supervisor of Miss Judy & Poody.
She also takes her dinner schedule VERY seriously.
If Miss Judy is late serving dinner, Poody has been known to jump up and give her a little nip on the backside!
Apparently, the princess does not tolerate late meals! 😂
She may have a special heart, but her personality is larger than life! ❤️
Having a special heart doesn't mean Poody has to miss out on life's adventures!
Because of her heart condition, Poody sometimes needs to take things a little easier. But Miss Judy found the perfect solution — her very own pink stroller!
Poody absolutely LOVES her stroller, and Miss Judy takes her just about everywhere in it.
From shopping trips and visits with Santa to exploring new places, Poody gets to enjoy the world while giving her little legs and heart a rest.
And we can't forget one of her favorite outings — a trip through the Dairy Queen drive-thru!
Because if there's one thing Poody loves almost as much as being spoiled, it's ICE CREAM! 🍦😂
Her adventures might look a little different from those of other dogs, but they're filled with just as much fun, love, and excitement. ❤️🐾
Poody may be the official mascot of Miss Judy & Poody, but her most important job is simply being our very loved little girl!
Because of her special heart, Poody takes medication twice every day and needs ongoing veterinary care.
If you'd like to show our little princess some extra love, Poody's Treat & Care Jar is an optional way to help with her favorite treats, heart medication, and veterinary expenses.
Every little bit of kindness is appreciated, but there's never any obligation.
Just visiting, enjoying her story, and cheering on our little fighter means the world to us! ❤️🐾
Thank you for being part of Poody's journey.
With love,
Miss Judy & Poody 💕
